Chairman’s Message
I feel greatly honored and excited to
organize Shaikh Ayaz International Conference on Language and
Literature. I know it is a huge responsibility to effect to a
satisfactory end. I have always kept my enthusiasm up to work for my
country in general and my alma mater in particular through all the
rough and cold weather. Ever since, I have worked either out of love
or out of hate for things, people and places/institutes.
Organising Shaikh Ayaz International
Conference on Language and Literature is of course the materialization
of dream of love that I cherish for our great legend Shaikh Ayaz, the
great alma mater and our professional academic activities i.e. to
generate and share our research works in a wide spread global context.
In attempting to effect all this many difficulties, technicalities and
objections popped upon the way but by the grace of Almighty, we got
through all of them with small, simple but efficient team of workers
to the actualization of this conference. Love and Service, Hope and
Dreams, have molded us to what we are doing for the betterment of our
society, for ourselves and for future generations.
To me a university is especially meant for
producing new vistas of knowledge and observations. Students are and
should be our first priority to impart this new knowledge to. We have
to develop a culture of research and positive inter-dialogue among the
students belonging to a variety of disciplines. All this will lead to
inculcate a respectable relation among the teachers and the students
of the university. This type of environment will give us a chance to
make our great thinker Allama I. I. Qazi’s dream come true. He would
always say we should learn, work and live honourably by educating our
masses on a higher level.
After the immensely successful
organization of Sindhi Adabi Conference by the Department of Sindhi in
1988, I have tried this time to hold this international conference
from the platform of the whole Faculty of Arts wherein I have tried to
involve all the departments and institutes of the Faculty. I hope this
humble effort will prove to be symbolic for the pressing need of the
time i.e. to think and to work in the fast emerging global context not
keeping in view the lingual, gender, racial, geographical and
religious differences. This will definitely strengthen the concept of
peace and harmony in the world at large.
Whenever I have done anything or completed
any task I feel I have paid back a debt that I owed to my land or
people. This kind of task I may have assigned to myself or an
institute may have assigned me. Discharging off the duties as a
student or a teacher, in the matters of research and organization, I
have always felt this satisfaction:
(whenever I recited a poem, I felt as if I
had discharged some debt to this land.)
In the present global scenario, the role
and importance of the disciplines of Arts and Humanities, like
Languages, Literature, Philosophy and History produce thinkers and
leaders in a society. We take advantage of studying, evaluating and
reforming our societies by studying these subjects. Research on the
numerous important aspects of these disciplines will help us review
the exiting situation of our societies and it will also assist us do
some good to ourselves, to our nations and to our coming generation.
I am highly thankful to the scholars,
paper presenters and the delegates, who, in spite of our short notice
call responded so promptly and within no time we were able to collect
as many as 75 research papers on the given themes of the conference.
It shows that our academics and scholars are well aware of their task
and are ever willing to share their views by participating in
conferences like this. I do hope that the works of our scholars will
give us useful readings and will make the conference lively, engaging,
instructive and path breaking. Once again, on behalf of the University
of Sindh, Organizing Committee myself and my team, I welcome all the
participants of the conference with a sincere wish of the best of time
and luck at the Jamshoro University Town.

I heartily congratulate the organizing
committee of Shaikh Ayaz International Conference on Language and
Literature to have organized such an important conference dedicated to
great poet Shaikh Ayaz. I am sure that this kind of grand gathering
will generate ample material regarding various branches of knowledge.
Sharing of views of the scholars will pave way to solutions of the
prevailing world problems and will help build a better human society.
I hope that participation of a number of international and local
scholars in this conference will foster solidarity and enable
dialogue, all in the spirit of breaking new grounds on the given
themes of the conference.
Such occasions are a source of positive
projection of universities and also of self-accountability. What I am
alluding here to its deteriorating standard of research in higher
education in the country especially in the field of Humanities and
Social Sciences. This is something that we have to sincerely fight for
collectively. We must be determined to take up this challenge with a
missionary zeal in order to prepare the nation for the forthcoming
challenging times where high degree of sophistication in Arts and
Humanities coupled with technological supremacy are going to be the
passwords known to everybody. I am sure such activities will develop
an atmosphere of advanced learning and research in our institutes of
higher education. This will also help improve the ranking of our
university to a better scale.

It is a matter of pleasure to learn that
the Faculty of Arts, University of Sindh is organizing Shaikh Ayaz
International Conference on Language and Literature. Shaikh Ayaz has
been, no doubt, a great poet, scholar and academic of Pakistan. Our
new generation needs to be introduced to his personality and creative
works. Such conferences provide us a great opportunity to make people
aware of our legend’s contributions.
The organization of this conference by the
Faculty of Arts should help to develop interactive research culture
not only among the academics and scholars of Sindh and Pakistan, the
participation of foreign scholars as from India, Bangladesh and Taiwan
etc will widen the scope of our communication and research regardless
the geographical boundaries. The conference is also expected to
encourage the students to think of higher studies in a proper way.
It is usually the departments or the
institutes that organize such conferences; I am really inspired to
know that Faculty of Arts is organizing this conference jointly taking
all the departments and Institutes together on this important subject
of Language and Literature.
I hope this kind of conferences will
continue to be held by different faculties of the Universities around
the country.
